A Taste of History
Stone is at the very heart of the canal network. It was indeed the place where discussions were first held to build a canal to help transport coal and china clay to produce the local pottery.
Finished pots were then distributed nationally by the canal network.
James Brindley was one of the first engineers to design and build canals. He worked originally as a millwright in Leek before becoming an engineer of world renown.
